MW COACHING

Moving You Forward

I offer career and business coaching for professionals and executives who want to make a change or achieve new goals. Clients work with me to make the most of their career potential and find ways to move forward with whatever they bring to coaching.

Using my experience of over 20 years in the city, as a Corporate lawyer and in people development, I coach across a range of issues to improve personal performance and help people get more from their work life.

Coaching can help you reach particular goals, adjust to new leadership responsibilities, deal more effectively with team dynamics, gain clarity over career direction or overcome self-limiting beliefs.

My approach is evidence-based, pragmatic and empathetic.  My style is flexible and focused on working together in ways that are effective for you.

A BIT ABOUT ME

I'm a certified executive coach, a Corporate lawyer with a Psychology degree and love working with people to get the most out of their professional life.  I've been working in the City for over 20 years and moved into coaching because I enjoy the people development side of my work much more than law.

I completed the Advanced Diploma in Executive Coaching (at the Academy of Executive Coaching) in 2022.  The diploma included over 120 coaching hours and the development of my coaching model.  I am also certified by the ICF (ACC level).

As well as coaching lawyers, I have coached professionals from other backgrounds, such as the Civil Service, Education, Corporates, Consultancy, the Not-for-profit Sector and Financial Services.

I have supported people successfully navigate competitive promotion processes, manage difficult relationships at work, adjust to new leadership roles, prepare to re-train for a new career and work through other pivotal decisions.

There are numerous ideas about what contributes to human flourishing and your time is precious.  I help clients apply concepts that have robust support to back them up and can fit with their lives.

PRACTICAL DETAILS

DURATION AND SERIES

I offer coaching sessions of 60 minutes or 90 minutes.  Most of my clients are busy and I find 60 minutes works well but you may benefit from slightly longer to allow room for deeper discussion.

Coaching generally works best as a series of 6-8 sessions but it very much depends on the client and the issues they want to address.

FORMAT

Sessions can be in-person or remote.

Although I really enjoy in-person coaching, I find coaching online works can also work really well, especially as clients often feel more comfortable being in their own environment, allowing for more privacy.

FEES

This depends very much on what issues you would like to work on in coaching and therefore the duration and number of sessions, so please do get in touch to discuss.

I always suggest an initial (free) call to talk about why you are considering coaching, discuss your goals, answer any questions and see if you would like to work with me.  Most people can benefit from coaching at some points in their career but I am happy to tell people if I don't think coaching is right for a particular issue or I don't think I am the right coach for them.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM COACHING

‘Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximize their own performance.’

WHAT COACHING IS

Coaching is forward-looking and a great way to focus on clarifying professional issues and find ways to progress by tapping into your own resources effectively. It is now common place for senior leaders in to have executive coaches. Coaching can help you achieve goals - or find ways to deal with knotty issues that may be blocking your progress. Sometimes, I work with clients to increase their awareness of what they do truly value so their goals are aligned with what they care about most. Then progress and goal achievement naturally follows. Quite often, the reason people aren't making progress on their own is because they don't align goals with what is important to them.

I will listen carefully to you, discuss any emerging patterns I notice that may be significant, suggest different techniques to generate creative ideas and challenge any underlying assumptions. Working with me will involve becoming clear about your strengths and strategically using them to get the most out of your professional life.

Your agenda will always drive the coaching session and I will not direct you along a path I think you should take. We'll be clear about the agenda and if we stray from original coaching goals, I'll check in to make sure that is the direction you actively want to explore.  Coaching sessions may make you feel slightly uncomfortable at times but I will always be on your side - if I challenge you it will be because it may open up new options that could be useful. Sometimes things come up that may make you emotional and that's fine. Having an emotional reaction is normally very useful information for a client. Equally, heavy discussions are not necessary precursors to progress or insight.  I will regularly ask if we are working together in a way that is useful for you, which may vary from session to session.  Some days, you may be up for a bit more challenge and other days more reflection and support may be more effective.  We can work together to get the balance right.

WHAT COACHING IS NOT

Coaching is not therapy.  It does not deal with mental health issues or focus on the past (although the past is not out of bounds in coaching sessions). I have a psychology degree and incorporate evidence-based psychological principles into how I coach but am not a psychotherapist.  If I think our sessions are touching on issues that would be better dealt with by a psychotherapist or a doctor, I will discuss that with you.

Coaching is not mentoring.  I will not tell you how to do your job.  Even if you are a lawyer.  (If I hear something that I think sounds off or might be hindering you at work though, I will definitely bring it up!)

Coaching is not consulting.  I won’t give you answers but I will help you work them out.  You are the expert in your field and have the resources to come up with creative solutions - I can help draw them out.
